How It Works

Hybrid

Crisis Intervention Training, Hybrid Model (Initial Training) – This training consists of the online Initial Crisis Intervention Training, followed by one-day classroom instruction in self-protection and physical intervention techniques. Sessions can be conducted on site at your organization or at SMG’s Corporate Training Centre.

 

Crisis Intervention Training, Hybrid Model (Refresher Training) –  This training consists of the online REFRESHER Crisis Intervention Training, followed by a ½-day of classroom instruction in self-protection and physical intervention techniques. Sessions can be conducted on site at your organization or at SMG’s Corporate Training Centre.

Direct

Crisis Intervention Training, Two-day classroom session – This session is designed for moderate to high-risk environments in which aggression/violence is likely to occur, i.e., health care emergency departments or group living/in-patient environments. The program is approximately 6.5 hours of prevention core concepts and 6.5 hours of self-protection and physical intervention techniques, including escorts and containments (as required). This session is conducted on-site at your organization for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 20 participants, and can be customized to your specific agency needs as required. Certification is awarded to staff after successful completion. The session is very practical and incorporates group work and scenario-based learning.

 

Crisis Intervention Training, One-day classroom session  – This session is designed for low to moderate-risk environments in which aggression/violence is possible; however agency data indicates a low frequency and intensity of episodes. The program is approximately 3 hours of prevention core concepts and 3.5 hours of self-protection and physical intervention techniques, including escorts and containments (as required). This session is conducted on-site at your organization and can be customized to your agency-specific requirements. Certification is awarded to staff after successful completion.

Train the Trainer

Our Crisis Intervention Train-The-Trainer (TTT) model is a five-day training program that can be conducted on-site at your organization.

 

This program includes all Trainer resources to ensure quality training within your agency (including a Trainer Manual, Learning Trak (physical competency checklist), PowerPoints, De- escalation Videos and access to our Trainer Portal). By the end of the five days, participants will be certified to train the SMG program at their respective organizations.

Interested in an Individual Specialized Consultation?

Consultants will meet with the direct care staff, the child, the program supervisor, the family/guardian (if applicable), the psychologist, behaviour therapist, social worker and anyone else involved in the child’s care.


The consultation is followed-up with a detailed report outlining action plans and recommendations. This report also includes a photo-log illustrating and describing step by step instructions to implement the specialized physical techniques.
